George F. Matta II, 64, of White Oak, and formerly of Duquesne, died peacefully on May 10, 2021. He was born on October 2, 1956 to parents George Matta, deceased, and Florence (Kelmeckis) Matta, and is survived by his wife Catherine (Love), who met in high school and were married for 39 devoted years; his son, Bradley and wife Gretchen (Dimeling) Matta, and daughter Brittany and her husband Darin Kowalski. George was blessed to be known as “Pappy” to his 4 grandchildren; Kash, Hagen, Bannon, and Kinley - all of whom he adored and provided him with motivation during his battle with brain cancer, and his dog Oliver George also leaves behind his brother, Gary Matta, and brother-in-law, George Dillinger, and his wife Cindy (Pazehoski) Dillinger and nieces and nephews; Logan (Dillinger) and Keith Haselhoff, Tyler and Liz (Heiles) Dillinger, Langley (Matta) and Tyler Shope, Austin Matta and Jaquan Davidson.

George lived a full life; dedicated to supporting his family, helping his friends, and committed to always trying to better the “Mon Valley” - the community he was so proud to have lived in throughout his entire life. His journey in life began in the City of Duquesne, from being born here, one of his proudest political accomplishments, was to be elected as Mayor of Duquesne from (1993-1999). Indeed, being called “Mayor” was a badge of honor as he was a graduate of Duquesne High School (1974) and was elected as City Controller (1989-1993). George obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Penn State University (1978), and Masters in Business Industrial Relations from St. Francis College (1983).

Thomas Brown, age 49, of McKeesport, died April 29, 2021, at home. Born August 26, 1971, he was the son of the late Larry and Mary (Brown) Williams and the husband of Juanita (Banks) Brown.

Thomas worked as a meat packer until he became disabled. He gave his life to the Lord and attended Love Ministry on the North Side. Thomas enjoyed listening to music and watching movies and loved being with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by children, Crisha Brown, Thomas Ellis and Trevon Brown; stepchildren, India Brown, Akeysha Price, Andre Price, Elza Henderson and Denise Henderson; 14 grandchildren; sister, Angel Brown; grandmother, Ruby Williams; uncle, Vernon Williams; aunt, April Williams; cousin, James Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a baby sister. Arrangements were entrusted to Willig Funeral Home & Crematory.

Pamela Sue (Kulus) Brown, age 55, of Braddock Hills, formerly of Duquesne, passed away on May 9, 2021, at UPMC Shadyside. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 7, 1965, she was the daughter of Constance Tassone (Dombrosky) and the late Thomas Kulus. She was a former legal secretary for a Pittsburgh law firm and a longtime waitress at Pizza Hut-Duquesne. She loved being with her family, which was everything to her, and she enjoyed going to Kennywood, lottery tickets and her cat, Pumpkin.

She was the wife of the late Paul Afanasieff. Survivors include her mother, Constance (Tassone) Dombrosky and her step-father, Gerald Dombrosky of Elizabeth Twp.; daughter, Heather Brown of North Braddock; siblings Thomas (Jacqueline) Kulus of West Mifflin, Cindy (Jim) Capell of Monroeville and Marie (Bryan) Krasneski of South Park. She was a doting and loving aunt of Tanner, Bennett and Ethan Kulus, Katie and Jimmy Capell and Ariana and Colton Krasneski; step-mother of Jesse Afanasieff and step-grandmother of Shane and Cailey Afanasieff.

William C. Whitehead, age 92, of North Huntingdon, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 8, 2021. He was born May 28, 1928 in Irwin, a son of the late Clarence R. and Sara E. (Daily) Whitehead. Prior to his retirement, Bill was a master tool and die maker for GM and attended The First Presbyterian Church in Irwin. He was a graduate of Norwin High School Class of 1947. He was involved in many activities such as Rough Riders Assoc., Swinging Squares of Irwin and Herold Grange Square Dancers, White Oak Gun Club, Laurel Highlands Coachman, the Winnebago Club, and the Odd Fellows. Bill was a board member of the Auto Workers Federal Credit Union. He was involved in may more activities, but his true love was his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth J. Romig Whitehead; sons, William C. Jr., Larry and Gary; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Whitehead. He is survived by his sons, Bruce, Mark (Suzie), and Rick; daughters, Linda Somerville and her husband, Joseph, and Janet Gilbert and her husband, Jim; grandchildren, Douglas (Vicky) Whitehead, Melanie (Richard) Freese, Adam Whitehead, Michael Whitehead, Samantha (Bill) Kane, Ashton (Michael) Wertz, Linnea (Drew) Wortmann, Courtney Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Dante, Kylie, Abby, Bryce, Maddox, Riley, Eden, Bryer, Wren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his little dog Toby. Robert Lee Monnie, 76, of North Versailles, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Manor Care, Monroeville.  He was born September 17, 1944 in Meadville, Pa., a son of the late Charles and Pauline (Cook) Monnie.  Prior to his retirement, Robert was an electrician and small machine mechanic and a veteran of the US Air Force having served during Vietnam.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed sports, antique cars and attending car shows.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles "Uncle Bud" Monnie.  He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Alice Rose (Frazier) Monnie; son, Darrin Monnie and his wife, Shelly; daughter, Dawn Klasnick and her husband, Ryan; grandchildren, Lacie (Mark) Brooks, Ted Klasnick, Allyssa Gavorn and Ron Gavorn.  Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the James W.
