Patricia J. Brimacombe, age 85, of Port Vue, died April 17, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital.  Born January 5, 1936, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Hoffmeister) Johnson, and wife of the late William Brimacombe.  Pat worked as a secretary for Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory and was an active member of Port Vue United Methodist Church.  She had a talent for making blankets and happily gave them to many family and friends.  Her family was also the recipient of many baked goods over the years, but cookies were her specialty.

Born October 25, 1929 in Dysart, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Adeline (Lee) Ammerman and wife of the Donald D. Hoover. She is survived by daughter, Lois (Ralph) Brown of White Oak; sons, Donald M. (Madalen) Hoover of Pittsburgh and Charles Hoover of Bon Aqua, TN; grandchildren, Katie (Paul) Diamant, Abby Hoover, Donny (Peggy Sue) Hoover, Joshua (Jessika) Brown, Jeff (Alex) Hoover and Jesse Hoover; great-grandchildren, Brenden, JJ. George W. "Wes" Whitehead, 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. He was born July 25, 1931 in North Huntingdon, a son of the late George and Mary (Scott) Whitehead. Prior to his retirement, George was a supervisor for AT&T and a member of the Norwin Church of the Nazarene. He was a world traveler, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, carpentry and was an all around handyman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott, two brothers, Melvin and Kenneth Whitehead.

Earl Layton May, 84, of Irwin, passed away April 16, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Johnstown, PA, on August 11, 1936, son of the late William and Beulah May.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, June (Wampler) May; children, Timothy May and his wife, Laurene, Wendy (May) Miller and her husband, Ron, Eric May and his wife, Lisa. 

Also survived by sister, Darlene Felus, daughter-in-law, Penny May; and son-in-law, Ray Crowell; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Quentin May and Rebecca (May) Crowell; sister, LaRue Wilt. 

Earl graduated from Gallitzen High School in 1954, achieved a perfect SAT score, then went off to Pitt to earn his Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering in 1959.  He was a certified Professional Engineer.  After graduation, Earl worked for Lee C. Moore Corp., American St. Gabain Glass, then began a 35 year career with PPG in the Glass Research Division.  He was a graduate of PPG's School of Glass Technology.  At PPG, Earl was a constant source of new ideas that made a significant difference in advancing the technology of glass forming. He was awarded 14 design patents. 

A faithful and devout Christian his whole life, Earl served his country and his church.  He was a member of the US Army Reserves and very active member of Brush Creek Lutheran Church.  He was a leader in council, Sunday school and bible study and a member of the choir.  In addition to serving on many committees, he was chairman of the church’s 200th anniversary in 1973, where he and June designed and built a parade float.  He was also treasurer for Thrivent Financial Services.   

Earl liked to watch his grandkids play softball and hang out with them in his pool.  He was always there for family events and anything they needed.  Earl enjoyed hosting family cookouts, keeping his yard, James Bond movies, reading history and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and his evening phone calls to sister, Darlene.  But most of all Earl loved spending time with his best friend, June, whether at home, cruising in his BMW, or out for one of their lunch or dinner dates.

Mary F. Pavlik, 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully in Corry, PA on Thursday, April 15, 2021.  She was born in the Pittsburgh area to Eastern European immigrants, the late Andrew and Verna (Bence) Hritz.  Mary and her late husband, John built their lives in North Huntingdon where they raised their family.  Mary was a devoted wife and mother, teaching her children according to God’s word, instilling in them a love for God and family, the importance of a good education and the value of hard work.  

Mary could be found volunteering at church, and served as Eucharistic Minister for St. Agnes church for many years.  Mary was a member of several ladies’ groups at church, and also took communion to the ill and elderly in the community as well as to residents of local nursing homes.  She is fondly remembered for her Eastern European cheregi pastries that she and her late husband John would make together and deliver in person to friends and family.  Mary never shied away from helping family or friends, and was a wonderful, giving, caring and kind soul.  Her presence will be forever missed by her daughter, two sons and daughter-in-law as well as by countless friends and family.

Mila E. Sacramento

Mila E. Sacramento, age 10, of Irwin passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 17, 2021 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.  Mila was born October 10, 2010 at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville, beloved daughter of Neal and Dawn (Sommers) Sacramento of Irwin.  Mila is also survived by paternal grandparents, Tony (Pap Pap) and Sharon (Meme) Sacramento of North Huntingdon.  Maternal grandmother, Elizabeth (Nana) Sommers and partner, Richard (Pappy Richie) Tucci of Irwn. 

Mila was a fourth grader at Norwin Hahntown Elementary and a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin.  Mila cherished weekly Target trips with her Nana, cooking lessons with Meme and teasing her Pap Pap on his daily visits.  Mila had a special bond with grandparents on both sides.  

She also treasured her time with cousin, Rocco Sacramento and BFF’s Riley Baker and Faith Pascus.  Mila was an avid Minecraft and Robox gamer.  She was a collector of many things like her Daddy, with her favorite being stuffed animals and LOL dolls.  She loved arts and crafts, reading books, pop music, drive in movies and the zoo.  Mila’s strong will and courage enabled her to battle through three different types of cancer and 15 major surgeries since the age of three.  She was the true definition of a fighter. 

Mila’s beautiful, brave, caring, funny, loving, smart and witty spirit touched everyone that got to know her.  Mila taught us so much about life in her short time with us.  Saying that she will be missed by all that loved her is an understatement especially by her mommy and best friend Dawn. 

Mila’s memory will live on in the hearts of many.  Mila was greatly loved by her many aunts, uncles and cousins.  Maternal aunts and uncles, Debbie Davidow, John (Lori) Playso, Victor (Mary) Playso, Stephen (Shelly) Playso, John Brady; paternal aunts and uncles, Dean (Katie) Sacramento, Anthony (Kate) Sacramento, Lisa (Casey) O’Malley.

Gajdzik, Sr., for 55 years.  You could always find Joann with a book reading a western romance novel.  Her sharp wit and intelligence would be on full display while watching Jeopardy with her family.  She always sounded off before anyone else with the answers.  Joann also enjoyed playing scrabble and pinochle.

She was the co-owner of Pizzarella in West Mifflin, a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Name Church and a former pharmacy tech at Jefferson Hospital and Penn-Taft Pharmacy. 

She was the best wife and mother that anyone could ask for and she loved to spend time with her family and go shopping. Jamie was the loving wife of 14 years to Bradley J. “Brad” Chonko; mother of Rylee Chonko and Gabriella Chonko, both at home; sister of Sara (Ralph) Marsico of Elizabeth, Carly Sloss of West Mifflin, Ashlee (Phil) Fox of Michigan, and Orlando Hale of North Dakota; granddaughter of Nada (late Charles) Sloss of West Mifflin and the late Dot Seibel; daughter-in-law of Jimbo and Marie Chonko of West Mifflin; sister-in-law of Christopher (Kari) Chonko of Jefferson Hills.

Eleanor Rose Zang, age 80 of Monroeville and formerly of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 in Forbes Hospital.  Born August 10, 1940 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Kovacs) Pfefferkorn.  A 1962 graduate of Duquesne University with a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry, Eleanor retired as a lab technician for the UPMC Hospital System.  She was a member of St. Joachim and Anne Parish, Elizabeth Twp, and was an accomplished knitter, even knitting voluntarily for the homeless.  In her spare time, she also loved to read, golf, watch NASCAR and the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, and was a great animal lover.  Besides her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Raymond John Zang, who passed away August 13, 1982, and her siblings Irene Maley and Andrew Pfefferkorn.  She is survived by her children Mary (Rocco) Vadala of Brookfield, OH, Amie (Kevin) Finney of Mt. Vernon, Raymond G. (Kasey) Zang of White Oak, and Damien Zang of Elizabeth Twp.; her grandchildren Kaden, Austin, Kenadie, and Avarie Finney and Zavier and Ragan Zang; and also nieces and nephews.

Barbara Jean Willard, 81, of Glassport, died April 15, 2021.  She is the daughter of the late Paul and Ella Mae (Boyd) Cupp and wife of the late Frank Willard.  Barbara is survived by her daughters Terry (Rick) Hughes and Cathy (John) Faye; son Frank Willard; grandchildren Abigail, Jordan, Hillary and Ben; sisters Shirley Barclay, Judy Yuhas, Jane Hopkins and Jacqueline Bilan; brother Carl Cupp and John Cupp; also niece and nephews.  She was preceded in death by son Michael Willard; grandson Justin; sister Armella Ruber and sister Francine Tibbs. Dr. Lawrence L. Lyons, 82, of Hempfield Township died April 14, 2021 at UPMC McKeesport. He was born February 8, 1939 in McKeesport, son of the late George and Anna Margaret (Shoop) Lyons. Dr. Lyons was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Lyons (Loretta), two sisters, Shirley Lewis (Kenneth) and Barbara Aranos.  He began his career as an Emergency Room physician at UPMC McKeesport and eventually opening his own family practice in White Oak, spanning a career of over 30 years.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Agnes Mens Club and a veteran of the U.S. Marines. Larry enjoyed skiing, golfing and family vacations.
