Maxine L. Erny, age 85, of McKeesport, died November 12, 2024, at Riverside Nursing Home, surrounded by the love of her family. Born December 6, 1938, in Somerset, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Janet (Ling) Cole and wife of the late Samuel Erny.
Maxine dedicated her working years as a union typesetter for the Daily American in Somerset, along with Herbick & Held Printing Company. Breaking barriers as the only woman in the office, she carried out her duties with grace and determination. Beyond her professional life, Maxine found joy in cultivating her garden, where she lovingly nurtured vegetables and beautiful flowers. Her culinary skills were unmatched, as she delighted in creating Easter candy and savory Thanksgiving pies. At home, she found solace in the pages of her favorite books and cherished moments spent watching shows like Dancing with the Stars and Big Brother.

Kenneth S. Sobek, age 75 of North Huntingdon died November 17, 2024 at the H. John Heinz III VA Hospital in Aspinwall. He was born September 25, 1949 in Braddock, Pa., a son of the late John T. and Anna M. Zayc Sobek. Ken was a member of St. Agnes Church North Huntingdon. He was a retired salesman for Cochran Automotive Group. Ken served our country in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Forrestal (CVA59) during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard D. and Bernard J. Sobek. He is survived by his beloved wife Michele A. Hawranko Sobek, two daughters, Kelley A. He was a former hospitality employee for the Mirage Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas, and he enjoyed all Pittsburgh sports teams. Anna Stankowicz, 92, of McKeesport, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024. She was born in Glassport on August 18, 1932 to the late John and Mary (Bodner) Popovich. She was the wife of the late Anthony Stankowicz, who passed away in June 2000. Anna worked many retail jobs through the years, but her favorite job was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. The family would gather at Anna's house on the holidays and every Sunday for dinner. Her stuffed cabbage recipe will remain untouchable. She is survived by her daughters, Lee Ann Powers of McKeesport, and Toni A. Puc of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Erica Powers, Jayme (Jordan Geissler) Puc, and Ashlee (Trevor) Pearsol; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Max, Jameson and Jett; as well as a sister, Helen McBurney; and nieces and nephews. Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and siblings Johnny, Frankie, and Doyle. He retired as the community planner for the City of Clairton, and also served as city manager, and was a former director of the West to West Coalition. She then followed her passion for the elderly and became Activities Director at The Grove at Latrobe Nursing Home for 16 years. Connie loved to travel, visiting many National Parks and Historical Sites, sailing with family on the Pamlico Sound in North Carolina, golfing particularly with her league "The Manoretts", music of all kinds, volunteering, reading, nature and the outdoors and spending time with neighbors and friends.

She was born March 25, 1930 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Helen (McClay) Kaylor. Ginny was the wife of 57 years to the late Donald H. Rollin, who passed away October 11, 2014. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Greenock. Ginny worked as a drafting clerk at the former Bell Telephone Engineering Department before becoming a homemaker. Ginny became involved with several organizations, putting her planning and organizing skills to great use. She was Past Mother Advisor of the former Elizabeth Assembly #120, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, Past President Church Council of the former St. John’s Lutheran Church in McKeesport, and Past President of the Highlander Ladies Bowling League. She was a 50 year member of Order of the Eastern Star, most recently Clairton Chapter No. 316 and a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers.

Anne Hughes Liparulo died Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the age of 76 at Forbes Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She resided with her devoted husband of 49 years, Nicholas J. Liparulo, at their home in North Huntingdon, PA. Along with her husband, she is survived by her loving son and his wife, Matthew Liparulo and Cristina Paradelo of Connecticut; and her adoring daughter and her husband, Karen Liparulo Chasnis and Benjamin C. Chasnis of North Carolina. Anne delighted in being “Nana” to Kennedy Chasnis, Reese Chasnis, Regina Anne Liparulo and Avril Anne Chasnis.
Anne’s parents were John W. Hughes and Ruth Manning Hughes of Washington, Pa. She graduated from Penn State University with a BA in Anthropology in 1970. Shortly after, she graduated with a MS in Library Science from The University of Pittsburgh, where she met her husband. She retired from Bettis Atomic Power Lab in West Mifflin, PA, as Library Manager. She was an engaged supporter of the performing arts community in Pittsburgh and held leadership positions at the Pittsburgh CLO. She loved to travel and was an avid fan of Penn State and Steelers football.
Most importantly, Anne had a meaningful impact on those around her. She was a genuine friend and devoted wife and mother. She was an exemplar of hardwork and commitment, always putting family first. Anne was Nicholas’ biggest supporter and motivated him to be the best version of himself. She showed unconditional love to Matthew and Karen and encouraged them through childhood. Anne was incredibly proud of the adults they became. Their spouses, Cristina and Benjamin, were welcomed into the family with open arms, and she treated them like her own. Later in life, her granddaughters became her greatest joys. She taught them to value family and to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Her physical presence will be missed, but her legacy of love will remain in our hearts.

Theresa was a member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, a Clairton High School graduate, and a salesperson for the former G.C. Murphy Co. in Clairton. She enjoyed spending time with and caring for her family. Family meant the world to Theresa. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Costa, who passed away May 30, 1993 and her daughter Carol Zuro, who passed away on February 12, 2022. Theresa is survived by her son Joseph T. (Gloria) Costa of Jefferson Hills; her son-in-law Frank Zuro; grandchildren Nicole (Tom) D'Antonio of Jefferson Hills, Michael (Leah) Zuro of Pleasant Hills, Bryan (Abby) Costa of Lodi, WI, and Jodi (Frank) Stosic of Jefferson Hills; great-grandchildren Mia and Luke D'Antonio, Dominik Zuro, Zayden and Macsen Schrott, Bayne Costa, Haylie Schwab, Destinie Bedard, and Bella and Frankie Stosic; and nieces and nephews.
