Bobby was a 1963 graduate of West Newton High School & proudly served in the United States Airforce during the Vietnam war where he became a Sergeant in under four years.  He was employed at Guardian Industries in Elizabeth, Pa where he later retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting coins.

He was the husband of 16 years to Jill (Fouser) Ernst; father of Joe (Tammie) Ernst of Jefferson Hills and Chad Ernst of Clairton; grandfather of Tristin, Emerick, Macksim & Ensleigh Ernst; step father of Dena (Kevin) Wright of Leesburg, VA, Jennifer Stefan of West Mifflin, Michael (Lizz) Skovranko of Erie; step grandfather of Katie Wright, Jocelyn Stefan, Ryan Stefan, Jacob Stefan, Dean Stefan and Aria Skovranko. He is also survived by several step brothers and step sisters.
