He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam and was a member of the Laborer’s Union Local #373. He is survived by his son, Robert “Tony” (Lori) Medina of Pittsburgh; daughter, Alicia (Nate) Peterson of Cincinnati, Ohio and grandchildren, Jacob Medina and Amaya Peterson.

She was born September 12, 1951 in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late George W. and Alma (Lewis) Merriman. Susan held an administrative position at the University of Pittsburgh. She was also proprietor of Merriman Trading Co. She is survived by her brothers, George W. Merriman, III, of Brooklyn, NY, Thomas L. (Constance) Merriman of Greenock and Charles "Jeff" (Colleen) Merriman of Munhall, and nieces and nephews.

Loretta "Tootsie" "Lorrie" Struiff, 82, of West Mifflin, died Sunday, January 6, 2019, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born in Duquesne, July 14, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Benedict and Mary (Artim) Unites. While Mrs. Struiff was primarily a homemaker, she was an instructor for the Arthur Murray Dance Studio and later in life became a published author. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph "Al " Struiff Jr., a daughter, Lynn Koza, and a granddaughter, Amanda Faux, she is survived by her loving daughter, Leslie Faux, five grandchildren, Casey Koza Turbeville (Michael), Randi Koza, Adam O'Hara, Sara Faux (Brian Bakey), and Joseph Aaron Faux, and two great grandchildren, Madisyn Faux and Nolan Bakey.

Smith, 80, of North Versailles, died Monday, December 31, 2018 at UPMC McKeesport.  Born June 13, 1938, he was the son of the late William J. and Irene Craven Smith.  Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army and was a retired manager of the Goldbug Convenience Store.  He was preceded in death by his sisters, Judith Goldberg and Janet Adams, and is survived by his brother in law, Sidney Goldberg and his sister, Jeanne Lenhart.  A committal service was held Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Jefferson Memorial Park, with the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132 in charge of arrangements.

Hinerman, age 70 of North Versailles, passed away at home on Sunday, January 6, 2019.  Born September 15, 1948 in Frank, PA, he was a son of the late Martin V. and Margaret (Boda) Hinerman.  A graduate of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster and a US Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War, Ronald was a self employed electrician.  He is survived by his sister Darlene (Sam) Reitz of Export, his companion Frances V. Carvili of North Versailles, and also nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his brother Martin J. Hinerman.

Gertrude was a member of the former  St. John Lutheran Church in McKeesport. She served on church council, taught vacation bible school and also taught Sunday School for 31 years, leading children to Christ. She enjoyed gospel music, reading, and loved to do for others.

Barbara Lee “Barbie” Havanets Burch, 75, of Port Vue, passed away at UPMC McKeesport Sunday, January 6, 2019.  She was born November 30, 1943 to the late Joseph and Veronica Havanets.  Barbie is survived by daughters, Rebecca Burch of Smithton, Beth (William) Atkins of Port Vue; grandchildren, Brooklynn and Billy Atkins.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Bertelman and former husband, Robert “Bird Dog” Burch.  Barbie lived her entire life in the Mon Valley area, loved hummingbirds, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Arrangements have been entrusted to E. Walter Smith, 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at RNC Greensburg. He was born August 16, 1929 in West Mifflin, a son of the late William H. and Laura (Shuster) Smith. Prior to his retirement, Walter worked as a maintenance man at Penn State McKeesport. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of North Huntingdon, a square dance caller for 25 years and an active participant in various square dance clubs, 50 year member of Duquesne-McKeesport Masonic Lodge 731 F&A.M., White Oak American Legion Post 701 and a veteran of the U.S. Marines having served during the Korean War where he was a purple heart recipient. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Nancy ( Campbell) Smith, brother, Thomas Smith and grandson, Brian Weigle. He is survived by his daughters, Laura Burk (Robert), Karen Weigle (Jere); grandchildren, Megan (J.W.) Lattimer, Katie (Cody) Frick, and Corey (Autumn) Weigle; great-grandchildren, Kinley, Dakota and Abigail. Visitation Tuesday from 2-4, 6-8 pm at the James W.
