He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of North Huntingdon, a square dance caller for 25 years and an active participant in various square dance clubs, 50 year member of Duquesne-McKeesport Masonic Lodge 731 F&A.M., White Oak American Legion Post 701 and a veteran of the U.S. Marines having served during the Korean War where he was a purple heart recipient.
