James E. Armstrong Sr., age 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024. He was born March 10, 1935 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, a son of the late Wilbert and Dortha (Hollen) Armstrong.
He was a long-time member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Irwin where he participated in the Saturday Men’s Group and worked the Burger Bash and Fish Fry events.
He graduated from Elizabeth Forward High School in 1954. He worked for over 41 years at the Tube City Iron and Metal in West Mifflin as a purchasing agent, store room manager and in the personnel department.
He was a member of the Elks and the Manor American Legion.

Iesha Monique Hamilton, affectionately known as “Esh” of Pittsburgh, PA departed this life on August 29 at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, PA.
She was previously employed by Right at Home as a direct care worker. Iesha attended Gateway High School in Monroeville where she graduated in 2009and then continued on to Bella Capelli Academy in Monroeville, through their Cosmetology Program with an education in Hair, Nails, Skincare and Makeup.
As a youth. she was a member of Zion Baptist Church and the youth choir.
She loved to travel and eat exotic foods; in addition to spending time on the beach, as evident with her travels to Hawaii, Cancun and Cozumel, Mexico, St. Augustine and as a young child, she traveled to Niagara Falls, Canada, New York, Washington DC and Disney World.

John M. Salopek, age 83, of North Huntingdon passed away on September 2, 2024 at Transitions Health Care. He was born on August 2, 1941 in McKeesport, a son of the late Michael John and Amelia Esek Salopek. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He graduated from Munhall High School in 1959 prior to his employment as a supervisor with U.S. Steel Clairton Works for 34 years until retiring in 1999. John was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church as well as the local Penns Woods Civic Association in North Huntingdon and the American Croatian Club in Duquesne. He was a longtime member of the White Oak Rod and Gun Club, and also belonged to the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. John enjoyed his Thursday night golf league with his co-workers at 7-Springs, and was a coach for PAL little league in North Huntingdon. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. A notable highlight in his life was a 10-day fishing trip to Alaska. John lived his life to the fullest until he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2014. Even then, he always looked on the bright side. His family was always first in his life. He was so proud of his three sons and the responsible men they have become. John is survived by his loving wife, Oletha "Bunny" Yates Salopek, sons Michael (Charlene), Mark (Liza), Kirk (Sarah), seven grandchildren Ashton, Trevor (Hayley), Alexis, Giselle, Isabella, Liam, and Gavin, two brothers Anthony (Barbara) and David (Ann), and many friends. Special appreciation goes out to the staff at Amedisys Hospice of Monongahela and Scottdale for the outstanding care they provided. Memorials can be made to them, or the Parkinson’s Foundation. Mary E. Graham, age 65, of Duquesne, passed away on Monday, Labor Day, September 2, 2024, at UPMC Montefiore. Born in Braddock on March 26, 1959, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Andres) Garland. She was a former food service worker at Duquesne City School District and a graduate of West Mifflin North High School.
Mary is the mother of Tiffany Holman (Joe Yarborough Jr.) of Duquesne; sister of William (Bok) Garland of Lincoln Place, Margaret (late William) Ramsey of Whitaker, and Cindy (Mark) Williams of Tionesta; and nieces and nephews. He loved vacationing in Rehoboth Beach. Jim was known for his meticulous care of his home, garden and yard and took great pride having his home in pristine condition. He will be greatly missed.

Thorvard Reynold Hardimon, 90, of McKeesport, PA departed this life on August 20th, 2024, at home. Thorvard was born April 11, 1934, in Walker County, Texas. He was the beloved son of Joseph Farris and Lula Mae Hardimon.
Thorvard attended Sam Houston High School in Huntsville, Texas where he graduated in 1954. While attending, he played on the football team and helped lead his team to win the state championship.
Shortly after moving to PA, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957, and he was deployed to Germany. During that time, he became ill and was honorably discharged in 1959. When he returned to McKeesport, PA, he married the love of his life, Earlean Bush in 1960. Four children were born from that union, Deborah Celestine, Thorvard Carlos, Cedric Jerome, and Angela Maria.
Deacon Hardimon was a 50+ year member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was ordained to the Deacon Board in 1974. For 25 years Deacon Hardimon served as the Treasurer of this church and oversaw the financials of this edifice. He retired in 1996 from the Municipal Authority, City of McKeesport, PA, and has enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Deborah Marie Simak, age 71 of North Oakland, Pittsburgh, passed away on July 28, 2024. She was born June 18,1953 in Glassport, Pa. She was preceded in death by parents Richard and Vincentina Simak, brother Ricky Simak, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Simak, Mr. Joseph Como, and memorably Lil Como. She is survived by her beloved son Zachary Holtzman, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Theresa Simak of Jacksonville Florida and their adult children Christina, Elizabeth and Andrew, daughter-in-law Danielle Lewis, many cousins particularly Nancy Como, Patty, Paula and Judy Minydzak, and some very great friends she held close to her heart. She often expressed her gratefulness for the blessings in her life, but her greatest joy were her grandchildren Lilly, Lia and Zack Holtzman with whom she was always so happy and of whom she was always so proud. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with Bachelor and Master degrees in Nursing and ended a successful career as Director of Quality Improvement in the medical school at the University of Pittsburgh. She enjoyed Pittsburgh’s museums, parks and cultural events, especially musicals, classical music, art exhibits, Phipps flower shows, and mystery books; she was a lector at St Paul Cathedral, a kayaker, and a fan of silver sneakers and playing chess, and the #1 supporter of her grand-kids’ athletic and educational endeavors.
