Jane Laska, age 98 of North Huntingdon, formerly of McKeesport, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Walden's View Senior Living in North Huntingdon. Born January 21, 1918 in Wishaw, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas S. and Annie (Bell) Cowie, and loving wife of the late Steve A. Laska. Jane was a lifetime member of the Kephart United Methodist Church and loved to spend time with her church family. She worked for the McKeesport Area School District as a cafeteria worker where she was the head baker for over 30 years.

Vaughn was the owner/operator of Fox's Pizza in Jeannette. He also enjoyed farming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Barry "Bud" Gongaware, a sister, Patty Gongaware Gratton. Margaret was retired after working for many years throughout her life, but her greatest joy was caring for her family.

Darlene L. Ryan, age 75, of Duquesne, died Thursday, October 20, 2016. She was born in White Oak on August 9, 1941, the daughter of the late Louis Lewis and Bertha (Kustra) Dillinger. Darlene worked for the Allegheny County Police for 36 years as an evidence technician. She was predeceased by her loving companion Theodore Jasko of 37 years and is survived by four children; Debbie Ryan of McKeesport, Cheryl Ryan of Blakeslee, PA, and Chuck Ryan of Blakeslee, PA, Kelli Ryan of West Mifflin; grandchildren, Brandon Ryan-Lorenz, Meghan Koziel, Samantha Franz, Jillian Franz, and Kayli Chapman; sisters, Carol (Jimmy) Levins of Florida, Shannon Lee Taylor of California, and Marianne Lewis of White Oak.

Friends and family will be received at Striffler’s of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412-678-6177) on Monday October 24th from 3-7 pm. Ruth McCombs, age 90, of McKeesport, died on Friday October 21, 2016. She was born in Amberg, Germany on December 28, 1925 and is the daughter of the late Johan and Nancy Demmler Neunteufel. She was a homemaker, loved to knit and crochet beautiful afghans, participated in senior aerobics, and was a member of AARP and SOAR.

She is survived by daughter; Mary (Michael) Kerston of White Oak, son; Walter McCombs of McKeesport, grandchildren; Dana Kerston (Edward Carr) of Liberty Boro, Michael A. (Nikki) Kerston of McKeesport, great-grandchildren; Seth Olinsky, Noah Kirsch, and Devalyn Kerston, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Roy D. McCombs, sisters; Maria Feil, Paula Tausch, Elizabeth Neunteufel, and Ann Mueller, and daughter-in-law; Rayna McCombs.

Nick Novak Jr., 83 and 5 1/2, of Duquesne, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at home. He was born April 19, 1928, in Duquesne, son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Magdic) Novak. He was a retired schoolteacher from the Duquesne School District, and was the boys and girls junior high basketball coach. He was a member of the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in McKeesport. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was a Golden Gloves boxer while in the service, and later boxed professionally under the name of Eddie Polo. He later boxed in Madison Square Garden and the University of Miami, from which he graduated. He belonged to the SNF Lodge No. 76 in Duquesne. He enjoyed going to his summer home in Ligonier, and traveling to Florida. He was one of the winningest coaches in the Heritage Serbian Basketball Tournament. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to the late Lorraine M. (Campbell) Novak. He was the father of Sandra Wickerham, West Middlesex, Nick E. (Lori) Novak, Murrysville, and Elizabeth "Beth" (Stephen) Kracinovsky, of Duquesne. He was the loving grandfather of Howard "Buddy" Wickerham, Kriss (Jason) Wickerham-Rusiewicz, Chase Wickerham, Nicholas (fiancee Brianne) Novak, Alex Novak, Ian Kracinovsky, and Colin (fiancee Tessa Marie) Kracinovsky; great-grandfather of Kenzie Rusiewicz. Brother of the late Steven J. (surviving spouse Susie Dixon Novak), the late Jane (late John) Plake, and the late George Novak; Brother-in-law of Shirley (Chuck) Heasley, of North Huntingdon, and also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation is from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at  MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME INC., 915 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne, 412-466-3300, William B. Schleifer, supervisor, William Brian Schleifer, Funeral Director. A Pomen service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, with the Very Rev. Stevo Rocknage officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Jefferson Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Sava Scholarship Fund.
