Elwin Lee "Bo" Johnston age 86, of Greentree, formerly of Hazelwood, he was born December 6, 1930, in the Southside of Pittsburgh, and passed away peacefully on December 30, 2016, surrounded by his family at the Paramount Assisted Living in Baldwin. He was a son of the late Frank and Gladys Wageley Johnston. Elwin was a graduate of Taylor-Alderdice High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and was called to serve his country during the Korean War. As a veteran of the US Army, Elwin was able to demonstrate both love of his country and his outstanding athleticism by playing baseball for the Army in Germany. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Division and the Rhine Conference Baseball Champions in 1954. Elwin was employed by US Steel and had a successful career as a computer programmer and then a systems designer until his retirement. He had an extreme love of reading, opera, golf, and the arts. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucia “Lucy” (DiGiorgio) Johnston; loving father of Kenneth (Lorraine) Johnston, Karen (Garth) Littrell, Elaine, and Fran (fiancé, Dave Hoover) Scott; grandfather of Nicholas (Nicole) Johnston, Megan (fiancé Josh Iacchini) Johnston, the late Brian Johnston, Spencer Scott, Connor (Jessica) Scott, and Lucy Scott; great-grandfather of Nicholas Johnston, Alexandra Johnston, and Gianna Scott. Elwin’s funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Jefferson Memorial Park Administration Chapel, Rev. Thomas Lewandowski officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park with military honors. Elwin’s family would like to thank Paramount Assisted Living (Baldwin) for their kindness, love and support. LaVANCE E. LONESOME, Jr. Age 24, of Duquesne, on December 17, 2016, at home. He was a son of LaVance E. Lonesome, Sr. of Duquesne and Melodee (Scott) Lonesome of Atlanta, GA. He was a member of Payne Chapel A.M.E. Church, Duquesne. He enjoyed writing music, and playing video games. He was a graduate of Columbia High School in Decatur, GA and he attended Atlanta Technical School. Besides his parents, his is survived by sisters and brother, Sequayah Scott of Duquesne, K'Hari Lonesome of Duquesne, Jasmine Lonesome of Homewood; uncle of Kassidy Scott; grandson of Lorraine Scott of Duquesne; also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other relatives. JACK D. SPELL Jr. Age 70, of Duquesne, on December 17, 2016, at home. He was a son of the late Jack D. and Anne (Hamarich) Spell, Sr. He was retired from U.S. Steel Clairton Works with 35 years service where he was a Larry car operator. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne. He was an avid fisherman. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps with service in Vietnam and after returning to the United States he served as a drill instructor at Quantico, VA. Beloved husband of 40 years to Edith E. (Estochin) Spell; father of Jack (Karen) Spell III of Liberty Borough and Lisa Spell of White Oak; grandfather of Brandon, Ashley, Justin and Declan Spell; brother of William (Debbie) Spell of Duquesne and the late Robert (surviving spouse Judith) Spell of White Oak; son-in-law of Mildred (late Edward) Estochin of East McKeesport; also survived by nieces and nephews. Zachary Edward Evagues age 28, of Duquesne on December, 9 2016, as a result of complications of post traumatic stress disorder. He is a son of Leonard and Joanne (Bevan) Evagues of Duquesne. He was a machinist by trade. He was a member of Christ the Light of the World Parish where he was a former altar server. He was a US Army Veteran for eight years including a tour of duty in Iraq. He received a Combat Action Badge. He was a graduate of Wilson Christian Academy and Mon Valley Technical School. Beside his parents he is survived by brothers and sisters, Sally (Matt) Smith of Parker, CO, Brian (Deirdre) Kamauf of North Huntingdon, First Sergeant, Jennifer Martin of Altus Air Force Base, OK, Terrence (Crystal) Kamauf, Houston, TX, Stephanie Evagues of McMinnville, TN and Rebecca Kamauf of Duquesne; grandson of Eleanor Duche of West Mifflin; boyfriend of Richelle Swyers of Dubois; also aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Nick Novak Jr., 83 and 5 1/2, of Duquesne, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at home. He was born April 19, 1928, in Duquesne, son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Magdic) Novak. He was a retired schoolteacher from the Duquesne School District, and was the boys and girls junior high basketball coach. He was a member of the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in McKeesport. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was a Golden Gloves boxer while in the service, and later boxed professionally under the name of Eddie Polo. He later boxed in Madison Square Garden and the University of Miami, from which he graduated. He belonged to the SNF Lodge No. 76 in Duquesne. He enjoyed going to his summer home in Ligonier, and traveling to Florida. He was one of the winningest coaches in the Heritage Serbian Basketball Tournament. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to the late Lorraine M. (Campbell) Novak. He was the father of Sandra Wickerham, West Middlesex, Nick E. (Lori) Novak, Murrysville, and Elizabeth "Beth" (Stephen) Kracinovsky, of Duquesne. He was the loving grandfather of Howard "Buddy" Wickerham, Kriss (Jason) Wickerham-Rusiewicz, Chase Wickerham, Nicholas (fiancee Brianne) Novak, Alex Novak, Ian Kracinovsky, and Colin (fiancee Tessa Marie) Kracinovsky; great-grandfather of Kenzie Rusiewicz. Brother of the late Steven J. (surviving spouse Susie Dixon Novak), the late Jane (late John) Plake, and the late George Novak; Brother-in-law of Shirley (Chuck) Heasley, of North Huntingdon, and also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Albert P. Oeler, of West Mifflin, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016. Well, this was bound to happen. So if you're reading this, you know my status of living has changed. I was born Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1918, in Nick Lee Hollow along the Thompson Run Creek in the City of Duquesne. I was the first-born son of Albert and Veronica (Weber) Oeler. My grandparents were John and Elizabeth (Sonderegger) Oeler and Joseph and Theresa (Goldbach) Weber.

Mary Anne Sekely, 63, of West Mifflin, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 11, 1952, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Vincent and Marie (Hammond) Hammer. She was a bookkeeper at Iron City Uniform Rental. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Duquesne, and former member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Guild. She was a moderator for the former youth group at St. Joseph Church. She was very proud that all three of her sons had served in the military. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank W. Sekely; mother of Frank Sekely, of West Mifflin, Theresa Sekely, of West Mifflin, Joseph (Cristin) Sekely, of Monroeville, and Thomas (Christy) Sekely, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandmother of Dawsen Hudson, Josiah Sekely, Kaiden Sekely, Emma Sekely, Rylan Sekely, Sylas Sekely, Falyn Sekely and Shelby Sekely; and sister of Vincent (Kathleen) Hammer, of Mt. Lebanon, and Eileen (James) Ondish, of North Huntingdon.
