Helen D. (Vuleta) Piovesan, 92, of North Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday June 27, 2018. She was born October 10, 1925 in North Huntingdon, a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Hegedus) Vuleta and was also preceded in death by her husband Jacob A. Piovesan Jr., a daughter Dorothy Crivella; and siblings Marie Zaverl, Rosemary Perrotti, Pete, Daniel, and George Vuleta, and Sophie Kotok. She had served as treasurer for the Fairmont Hahntown VFD Ladies Auxiliary, was a member of the Democrat Club, Italian Ladies Club, VFW Post 781 Auxiliary, TOPS Club, Irwin Eagles, and Women of the Moose. She is survived by her children Jacob A. Piovesan III of West Newton, Janet (Charles) Laber of North Huntingdon; son in law Larry Crivella of North Huntingdon; grandchildren Christopher (Heather) Crivella, Jennifer (Jake) Laber Gomola, Shannon Crivella, and Jacob A. (Tabbitha) Piovesan; great grandchildren Justine and Journey Gomola, Kayla and Oliva Morris, Hailey Casper, and Aaliyah Turkowski; siblings Ann Matovich of OR, Mildred Borosky of Hermine, Samuel (Nancy) Vuleta of KY, Julia Cruder of Greensburg, Joe Vuleta of WA, Steve (Yon) Vuleta of WA, Paul Vuleta of Youngwood, and Patty Benn of MO; also nieces and nephews.

Safko, 69 of West Mifflin, died June 26, 2018.  He is the son of the late Michael and Caroline Safko.  He is survived by his sister Carolyn (the late Robert) Munro; also nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by his brother Robert (Anne) Safko and sister Dorothy (late John) McNansky. Bill was a graduate of West Mifflin North H.S. and Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam era. Friends received Teichart-Gracan Funeral Home, Duquesne Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and Tuesday from noon to 1:00 pm at which time a funeral blessing will be held.  Interment following at Holy Name Cemetery.

Kathleen “Kass” Jean (Kunkle) Sofaly passed from this world on June 25, 2018, at Transitions Healthcare in North Huntingdon, after courageously living with Parkinson’s disease for over 20 years. Kass was born October 28, 1934 in Ligonier, the first daughter of Agnes Kinney Kunkle and Raymond Kunkle. In addition to her parents, she was greeted in heaven by her loving husband Jerry Sofaly. Celebrating her life are her two daughters Leslie Sofaly Peters (Kent) of Columbus, Ohio, and Lynn Sofaly Boyd of Harrison City, and her son John “Jack” Sofaly (Julie) of North Huntingdon. She leaves six grandchildren, Charles Nider (Tracy), James Peters, Alex Boyd, Katie Sofaly, Don Sofaly and Paul Sofaly, and one great granddaughter Caroline Nider.

Louis was a US Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. For his service he received the WWII Victory Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.

Frederick William "Bud" Hecker, Jr., 86, of White Oak,died Monday, June 25, 2018. Bud was born April 23, 1932 in Donora and was the son of the late Fred and Ida Mae (Neff) Hecker. Bud was a graduate of Grove City College after serving in the US Army during the Korean War. He would then go on to be employed for 31 years at Alco as Chemical Engineer and be an active member at St. Angela Merici Church, White Oak. In retirement, he and his wife lived in Naples, Florida and later in Celebration, Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Eleanor R. (Andrejcak) Hecker, step-daughter, Debra (Dale) Anlauf of North Huntingdon, step-son, Michael Gary (Randi) Macosko of Henderson, NV, daughter, Suzanne (Philip) Johnson of California, sons, Tom (Barbie) Hecker of Colorado, and Jim (Cindy) Hecker, of New Holland, PA, twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was a cake decorator for Shrader’s Dairy Queen, Jeannette and was active with Compassionate Friends, the Herminie Senior Center, and McKenna Senior Center. She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her family was most important to her and she made the best apple pies. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Robert A. Montgomery; her children Jane Dunklebarger of York, Deanne (Steven) Rymarowicz of North Huntingdon, Dawn (Kevin) Brophy of Sayreville, NJ, and Todd (Joy) Montgomery of Greensburg; her former daughter in law Susan Hesse of MD; her grandchildren Lauren Felter, David (Evelyn) McCulloch, John (Cori) McCulloch, Jared Dunklebarger, Ryan Brophy, Jacob Dunklebarger, Todd Montgomery Jr., Conor Brophy, Carissa Brophy, Bradley Montgomery, Nicholas Montgomery, and Joelle Montgomery; and her great grandchildren Haley, Karissa, Elaina, Ava, Alexa, Damien, and Maximus.

Edward Locke “Ted” Kemp, Jr. died Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.  Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he will be deeply missed.  Until his last month, he lived a dynamic, gregarious and driven life.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 17, 1932, he was the son of Edward Locke “Ted” and Carol Virginia (Hemington) Kemp.  Ted was first raised in Tenth Ward of McKeesport, PA, then West Mifflin. He was an Eagle Scout.  He graduated from McKeesport High School in 1950.  Afterward, he attended Bethany College where he was a member of the fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. There, he met his beloved wife and life-long partner, Barbara.

In 1970, Ted was Cofounder and President of Elk Air Conditioning, Inc.  Ted was an entrepreneur who always enjoyed talking and telling stories with many people in construction and related businesses while working to deliver quality products and services.  He served a term as president of the Pittsburgh chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors.  He also served on the Boards of McKeesport- Versailles Cemetery and White Oak Borough Water Authority. Ted’s many memberships included McKeesport Jaycees, McKeesport Rotary and First Methodist Church of McKeesport.

Ted loved to travel and seek adventures, he also was active and dynamic in many sports and hobbies. He was an avid sailor, biker, and croquet player. Deep Creek Lake Yacht Club was a center of his life where he had numerous friends and served a term as Commodore.  At the time of his death, he was a resident of Sarasota, FL.  Ted is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara (Acker), children Ralph (Donna Hansen) of Pittsburgh, PA, Ed Kemp (Alice) of North Huntingdon, PA, and Margaret “Maggie” Kemp (Bernie Rosen) of Lempster, NH;  grandchildren Ryan (Molly), Hannah, Merinda, Jonathan, Phillip Rosen, Erin Rosen, Tara, Kasey; great-grandchildren Tailynn and Raylee, brother Peter Kemp, sister Carol Nill and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Hunter Funeral Home at 1600 Coursin St., McKeesport, PA 15132 on Thursday and Friday, June 28 and 29, from 2-4 and 6-8.  Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 3 at 10:00 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 5234 Rte. 135, Deer Park, MD, 21550: with the Reverend Dr Chip Lee officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, 600 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA, 15222, or Brother’s Brother Foundation, 1200 Galveston Ave., Pittsburgh, PA  15233.
