Gertrude Elizabeth Lieberum, 91, of McKeesport, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019. She was born April 28, 1927 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Albert and Angela (Schibik) Thomas. She was the wife of the late Arthur Mark Lieberum who died January 14, 2000. Gertrude was a member of the former St. John Lutheran Church in McKeesport. She served on church council, taught vacation bible school and also taught Sunday School for 31 years, leading children to Christ. She enjoyed gospel music, reading, and loved to do for others.

Barbara Lee “Barbie” Havanets Burch, 75, of Port Vue, passed away at UPMC McKeesport Sunday, January 6, 2019. She was born November 30, 1943 to the late Joseph and Veronica Havanets. Barbie is survived by daughters, Rebecca Burch of Smithton, Beth (William) Atkins of Port Vue; grandchildren, Brooklynn and Billy Atkins. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Bertelman and former husband, Robert “Bird Dog” Burch. Walter Smith, 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at RNC Greensburg. He was born August 16, 1929 in West Mifflin, a son of the late William H. and Laura (Shuster) Smith. Prior to his retirement, Walter worked as a maintenance man at Penn State McKeesport. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of North Huntingdon, a square dance caller for 25 years and an active participant in various square dance clubs, 50 year member of Duquesne-McKeesport Masonic Lodge 731 F&A.M., White Oak American Legion Post 701 and a veteran of the U.S. Marines having served during the Korean War where he was a purple heart recipient. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Nancy ( Campbell) Smith, brother, Thomas Smith and grandson, Brian Weigle. He is survived by his daughters, Laura Burk (Robert), Karen Weigle (Jere); grandchildren, Megan (J.W.) Lattimer, Katie (Cody) Frick, and Corey (Autumn) Weigle; great-grandchildren, Kinley, Dakota and Abigail. Visitation Tuesday from 2-4, 6-8 pm at the James W. Gerald T. Dempsey Sr., age 93, of North Huntingdon, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019. He was a World War II Navy veteran that completed an extensive course in timepiece repair that set him up for his future work and helped him with repairing friend's time pieces. He retired after over 42 years as an instrument repairman at the Edgar Thompson Works in Braddock. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and spend time in the outdoors. He always looked forward to traveling to Georgia in the summers with his wife to buy and restore antiques with his father-in-law for his resale shop. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of over 43 years Viona "Vi" Dempsey; parents; and many brothers. He is survived by his children Gerald Dempsey Jr. of Bellingham, Washington, Eleanor Dempsey of Youngwood, Norma McCarthy of Greensburg and Philip (Colleen) Dempsey of Blairsville; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; Brother Howard; and sisters Betty and Janet.
