He was born May 24, 1942 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Dr. Frank Robert and Dorothy (Dunn) Bondi, Sr. He was the husband of the late Vera M. (Stanislaw) Bondi who died June 29, 2009. They were married 45 years. Frank retired from UPMC McKeesport Hospital after 20 years of service and was proprietor of the former Valley Car Wash on Long Run Road. He obtained his Private Pilot license in 1970 and enjoyed flying for several years. He is survived by his daughters, Valerie  (Richard) Heimbach of Harrisburg and Meredith Bondi of Boston, grandsons, LCP Nicholas Heimbach, USMC and PFC Pierce Heimbach, USMC of Harrisburg, brothers, Dr. Richard (Camille) Bondi of Squirrel Hill and Mark (Michelle) Bondi of Allison Park, sisters, Pamela (Jess) Cignetti of Mount Vernon and Lynn  (Bill) Hanna of Doylestown, nieces and nephews.

It is with sadness in their hearts that the family of Donald Hickman announces his passing, and entrance into eternal life on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was a devoted, caring, and dedicated family man and will be deeply missed by his loved ones.  He was born in Dravosburg on December 4, 1930 to the late Adam and Myra Leadbeater Hickman.  Donald will be greatly missed by his loving wife, of 67 wonderful years, Mary Lou; children, Daniel Hickman, Patty (Gerald) Tedesco, Karen (Bryan) Snodgrass; grandchildren, Gerald (Kristen) Tedesco Jr., Jonathan (Robyn) Tedesco, Jamie (William) Dugas, Kylie Snodgrass, Alyssa Snodgrass, Jacob Snodgrass; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Tristan, Marisa, Dominic and Isabella, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.  Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 1 sister.  Donald was a lifelong resident of Dravosburg, and a graduate of McKeesport High School.  He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, was retired from US Steel Research Lab in Monroeville in 1984, and owned and operated the distributorship for the McKeesport Daily News and Pittsburgh Press in Dravosburg for 40 years. Don was a devout Christian his entire life, leading many people to understand God’s love for them.  He was an accomplished baseball pitcher for McKeesport High School, many local sandlot teams, and Mitchell Air Force Base.   In 1953, he was offered to try-out for the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The family is especially grateful for the exceptional kindness, concern and care from all of his caregivers, especially Caitlin Sostaric and Alexa Paranzino, his primary caregivers.  Visitation will take place Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 1 – 8 pm at I. M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 203 4th Street, Dravosburg,  PA 15034. A memorial service will take place on Monday April 23, 2018 at Amity Presbyterian Church in Dravosburg at 11:00 am followed by interment at Richland Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Catholic Hospice at catholichospicepgh.org. Mrs. Katherine “Kathy” Louise Toner Hitchens, of Elizabeth Township, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in Burlington, NC, following an extended illness at age 85. Born in McKeesport, she is the daughter of the late, William James and Dorothea Nill Toner. Mrs. Hitchens grew up in Beaver, PA, then graduated from The Grier School in Tyrone, PA, where she pursued equestrian interests. Mrs. Hitchens earned her college degree from Endicott in Beverly, MA, majoring in retail merchandising, returned to Pittsburgh, and worked for Eastern Airlines and later, The United Steel Workers of America.  In 1956, she married Mr. Edward Floyd Hitchens and established residence in Elizabeth Township.  She was proceeded in death by him at the age of 39, an event which changed the course and mission of her life. After experiencing comfort from a Theos Grief support group, she felt the need to console others. Ultimately, she became the facilitator of this local support group for over thirty years, became involved in developing and later directing the Board of The Self Help Group Network of Pittsburgh, The Self Help Group Theos Foundation, was awarded The Pittsburgh Area Self Help Networking Award in 1987, and was nominated for The National President’s Service Award in 1995. She is a former Brownie Scout leader, current member of the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, and has served her community in numerous civic and voluntary capacities. Survivors include daughters, Nancy L. Hitchens of Elizabeth Township, PA, Janet L. Hitchens, of Burlington, NC, stepdaughter, Becky Dombroski, of Rome, NY, and grandson, Daniel “Evan” Piephoff, of Cambridge, MA.

Andrew Kovall, 89, of North Versailles, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 8, 2018. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, scholar, and friend. Andrew was born April 15, 1928 in Linn, Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his parents Susanna and John Kovall, and his siblings John, Andrew, Michael, Paul, George, Pete, and Susanna. He devoted his life to public service. Andrew joined the Army in 1946 and spent much of his six years of active duty service in Asmara, Eritrea in East Africa, a place he held near to his heart until his last days, even taking a trip back in 1995. After his time in the Army, he joined the Navy Reserves, serving 22 more years to his country. Andrew worked for the state of Pennsylvania as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for 30 years in Pittsburgh and McKeesport. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and served as an usher at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Andrew considered himself a renaissance man who enjoyed reading, tailoring, painting, tinkering, and especially gardening. He challenged his mind throughout his lifetime, learning new languages, taking college courses in his retirement, and doing the daily crossword in red pen. He had a great love of music that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Never having met a stranger, Andrew loved conversing with everyone around him. He most loved spending time with his family. Andrew is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia; daughter Carolyn (Robert) Brown; son Robert (Sandra) Kovall; granddaughter Chelsea (Tommy); grandsons Evan, Michael, Matthew, and Mitchell; great-granddaughter Grace; and many nieces and nephews.

James “Jim” Kenneth Burge, 92, of Clairton passed away at home on Saturday, April 7, 2018.  He was born January 8, 1926, in Clairton, to the late James and Elizabeth Long Burge.  Jim was a loving husband, for 67 years, to his late wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Demis Burge, who passed away in 2015.  He is survived by sons, James (Jane) M. Burge, Paul A. Burge, both of Clairton; daughter Barbara (Mark) A. Murray of Clairton; grandchildren, Mary (Jeff) Trott, Anne (Jerome Ramsey) Burge, Christianna Murray; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Jakob, Noah, Ian, and Sofie.  Along with his parents and spouse, Jim was preceded in death by brothers, Adrian “Dutch”, Robert, William; sisters, Esther MacNicol and Edna Lees. He was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Church in Clairton, a graduate of Clairton High School, served his country in the Armed Guard Service of the US Navy during WWII on the Merchant Marine ship The SS Jonathon Worth, enjoyed Clairton High School football, frequenting the coffee shop to socialize, and spending quiet days at home.  Visitation and service will be private at S. Isabella (Pearson) Thompson, 84, of Palmyra, Virginia went home to be with her Lord on Easter morning, Sunday, April 1, 2018. She was born in Homeville, Pennsylvania on April 15, 1933 to the late George H. and Dorothy (Lingertot) Pearson. Isabella grew up in Dravosburg, Pennsylvania, Where she graduated from McKeesport High School in 1951. She married the love of her life, the late Thomas Cowan Thompson of Glassport on May 16, 1952 at the First Methodist Church in Glassport. They were married for 60 years and resided in Elizabeth Township. After raising her four sons, Isabella began a career in banking and eventually retired as a bank officer for Three Rivers Bank. She was baptized at the Riverview Baptist Church of McKeesport in 1962, but continued following her love of Anglican Worship throughout her life. Most recently, she attended the Christ Anglican Fellowship Church in Orange, Virginia. Her favorite Bible verses were Philippians 4: 6-7. Isabella and Thomas had a love for travel and visited Nova Scotia, Bermuda, Israel and Alaska after retirement.

He was a long time member of Greater Works Outreach, Monroeville. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict stationed at Fort Knox and went on to spend the next 28 years managing a number of bowling businesses including Norwin Lanes, North Versailles Bowling, and Bowling City, Mt. Lebanon. Most recently, until his retirement in December, he was in sales for Toona Auto Parts in North Huntingdon. He was an accomplished bowler, enjoyed golf and loved his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son-in-law Jim Snyder; brothers Joe, Bob and Jack Walton; and a sister Audrey Yates. He is survived by his wife of over 66 years Joan (Ridgeway) Walton; his children Daniel (Donna) Walton of Monroeville, Diane Snyder of Wexford, David (Becky) Walton of Monroeville and Dennis (Bonnie) Walton of Ford City; 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
