Margaret L. Simon, 93 of Buena Vista passed away peacefully September 25, 2024, at her cherished family farm. Born to Eli Ross and Margaret Toth Ross on November 26, 1930 in New Castle, Pa., Margaret moved to Elizabeth Township in 1940, where she lived for the next 84 years until her death. Margaret was a true life-long farmer and was awarded a college scholarship from the Future Farmers of America, which she declined in order to marry the neighboring farmer, her beloved husband, Julius Simon. Julius preceded her in death in 1999. Margaret was an avid reader and self-taught oil painter. She enjoyed puzzles and games, and deeply loved her family. Never afraid to speak her mind, she often said that she was not opinionated...she just knew what was right and wasn’t afraid to say it! Margaret was a talented storyteller. She was strong in her faith and a member of Round Hill Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. In addition to her husband, Julius, Margaret was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Tim Kenney. James C. St. Clair, age 85 of North Huntingdon, passed away on September 19, 2024, at his home. He was born on May 23, 1939 in Blairsville, a son of the late James St. Clair and Ethel Smith St. Clair. James was employed as an automobile mechanic at Delaney Chevrolet in Indiana PA. He was a longtime member of New Hope Presbyterian Church where he worked as a custodian, and also served as a volunteer fireman at the Blairsville Fire Department. In his free time, he loved to hunt, fish, travel, and work on cars. Born on September 29, 1927 in Elwood, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Floyd L. and Clevie A. Lackey Jeffries. While most recently she resided in Kennedy Township, she lived over 70 years in Glassport. She passed away on September 19, just 10 days shy of her 97th birthday.
She is survived by her son, Alan E. Kuffner (Diane) and daughters, Mary Jane Kuffner Hirt (Bruce G. Betty, deceased) and Nancy Thomas (Robert), grandson, Alan P. Kuffner, long-time family friend, Cathleen Gialloreto and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 55 years, Alan E. Kuffner, Sr. and daughter, Lynn Anne Kuffner; and siblings Jack L. Jeffries, William H. Jeffries, Robert Jeffries and JoAnn Geruschat.
Mary was a proud and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. And, she was always willing to help others whether at the church food bank or McKeesport pre-school with Fran, her kids’ PTA, March of Dimes fund-raising events, the Home for Crippled Children (now Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh) or visiting shut-ins with June.
In her later years, she volunteered at a church pizza kitchen, enjoyed watching Pitt basketball and football, the Pirates and Steelers and crocheted dozens of colorful winter hats for local kids. Sincere appreciation to the staff and residents at Concordia at Wexford for the care and kindness extended to Mary over the last 7 weeks.

Richard R. Gonzales, age 76 of North Huntingdon, passed away on September 22, 2024 at Westmoreland Hospital. He was born in New York City on October 11, 1947, a son of the late Raymond Gonzales and Margaret Lichney Gonzales.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a bus driver for Norwin, Penn Trafford, and Latrobe School Districts. Richard was a member of Word of Life Church in Greensburg, Teamsters 301 of Jeannette, and VFW Post 781.
In his free time, Richard was an avid outdoorsman and he also loved to cook. Edward F. "Ed" Scott, 71, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born August 21, 1953 in McKeesport and was the son of the late John and Eleanor (Krajewski) Scott. Ed worked for over 24 years as a mobile equipment mechanic for US Steel, starting with the former Duquesne Works and retiring from the Clairton Works location. Ed attended Mary, Mother of God- St. Patrick Church. He was known for his humor, he loved to play jokes on anyone he could, and make people laugh. Ed was also known by his family to be very kind hearted, but also very stubborn. He was an excellent mechanic, a handyman around his home and a jack of all trades. He was an avid gardener, who loved to grow green beans, green peppers, tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. He loved making a jumbo sandwich with Hellman's mayonnaise and fresh tomatoes from his garden on Rye bread. Ed was a sports fan and loved to cheer on the Steelers and Penguins. He was also a homebody and took great pride in his lawn. Ed enjoyed cooking, was known for his delicious apple and berry pies. Ed loved his family and his dogs, especially Leo and the late CD. He will be greatly missed.

Barb then worked at Visiting Nurses of Allegheny County for 20 years as a CNA and then hospice until she retired. She was a member of Round Hill Presbyterian Church and enjoyed going to bible studies. Previously belonging to Immanuel Presbyterian Church in McKeesport for 50 years where she went to bible studies, sang in the choir and was a Deacon and Elder. She loved reading, camping, playing the clarinet, fishing, gardening, and taking pictures of every beautiful thing she saw - especially birds. Neil Robert Jones, 62, of Irwin, passed away surrounded by his family on September 9, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 25, 1961 in McKeesport, PA. He was the son of Betty Lou (Culbert) Jones and the late James A. Jones. Neil graduated as valedictorian from McKeesport High School in 1979, where he was also a captain of the swim team. He earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Grove City College and later obtained a Master's in Education from Penn State University. In the 1980s, Neil became a paramedic with White Oak Rescue Squad. He went on to work with the Center for Emergency Medicine, where he taught pediatric trauma care, served as a flight medic for Stat MedEvac, and worked as a manager at Children's Hospital. He also taught at the Community College of Allegheny County.

He was born on January 31, 2003 in Monroeville, a son of Shawn Patterson and Patricia Novak Patterson. Alec was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin, and a graduate of Norwin High School in the Class of 2021. He had a passion for music, was a talented pianist, and loved to play the tuba in the Norwin Band. Alec was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree with dual majors in both Secondary Education and History. He was a Da Vinci Scholar and earned a spot on the Dean's List during all four years of his schooling. Following his collegiate graduation, Alec became a Student-Teacher at Greater Latrobe High School, a role which he cherished. Joseph “Joe” Howard Lynch age 70, of Pickerington Ohio passed away on September 6th 2024. Joe was born February 16th in Pittsburgh, PA to Marguerite H. (Pfalzgarff) and Nelson C. Lynch. Joe lived in Perry, Ohio for 35 years before moving to Pickerington Ohio. He was a graduate of West Mifflin High School in PA and later Tiffin University. He prioritized education and among his proudest achievements was supporting all of his children in earning college degrees. Joe met the love of his life, Robin Lynn Filer, at 17 years old while working at Murphy Mart. They married in 1975 beginning their eternal adventure together. Together they built a family that was his greatest source of joy. Joe loved and served others throughout his life as a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Joe was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many capacities including bishoprics, youth group leader, and as a Seventy. Professionally Joe was successful in several capacities, most notably spending 30 years as a member of Health Physics/Radiation Protection department at the Perry Nuclear Plant. He retired in 2017 to enjoy traveling with Robin and visiting his beloved grandchildren. Joe loved his family, friends, and dogs. He enjoyed attending Cleveland baseball games, 60’s music, traveling, and watching science fiction movies/tv. He came from a long line of Master Carpenters and honed his skill from working with his own father. (He took his first trip to Chicago at the age of fourteen, all on his own.) He enjoyed truck magazines, going to truck shows in Harrisburg with his friend, Bernie, and always enjoyed talking trucks. Patty loved spending time with her grandchildren and family, tending to her flower gardens, and her rescue Basset Hounds. Patty held honesty and fairness at the highest level. She was a vibrant, energetic person with an infectious upbeat spirit who dedicated her life to improving our community and the lives of others. She was devoted to activating others on local environmental and quality of life issues. She was involved in multiple community causes as well as local environmental causes, especially air and water quality issues. She was always ready to assist others in fighting against things that needed to be changed. Iesha Monique Hamilton, affectionately known as “Esh” of Pittsburgh, PA departed this life on August 29 at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, PA.
She was previously employed by Right at Home as a direct care worker. Iesha attended Gateway High School in Monroeville where she graduated in 2009and then continued on to Bella Capelli Academy in Monroeville, through their Cosmetology Program with an education in Hair, Nails, Skincare and Makeup.
As a youth. she was a member of Zion Baptist Church and the youth choir.
She loved to travel and eat exotic foods; in addition to spending time on the beach, as evident with her travels to Hawaii, Cancun and Cozumel, Mexico, St. Augustine and as a young child, she traveled to Niagara Falls, Canada, New York, Washington DC and Disney World.

John M. Salopek, age 83, of North Huntingdon passed away on September 2, 2024 at Transitions Health Care. He was born on August 2, 1941 in McKeesport, a son of the late Michael John and Amelia Esek Salopek. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He graduated from Munhall High School in 1959 prior to his employment as a supervisor with U.S. Steel Clairton Works for 34 years until retiring in 1999. John was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church as well as the local Penns Woods Civic Association in North Huntingdon and the American Croatian Club in Duquesne. He was a longtime member of the White Oak Rod and Gun Club, and also belonged to the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. John enjoyed his Thursday night golf league with his co-workers at 7-Springs, and was a coach for PAL little league in North Huntingdon. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. A notable highlight in his life was a 10-day fishing trip to Alaska. John lived his life to the fullest until he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2014. Even then, he always looked on the bright side. His family was always first in his life. He was so proud of his three sons and the responsible men they have become. John is survived by his loving wife, Oletha "Bunny" Yates Salopek, sons Michael (Charlene), Mark (Liza), Kirk (Sarah), seven grandchildren Ashton, Trevor (Hayley), Alexis, Giselle, Isabella, Liam, and Gavin, two brothers Anthony (Barbara) and David (Ann), and many friends. Special appreciation goes out to the staff at Amedisys Hospice of Monongahela and Scottdale for the outstanding care they provided. Memorials can be made to them, or the Parkinson’s Foundation. Roy Dennis Opfar, age 70, of Lincoln, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Jefferson Hospital. A member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, he retired as a medical records representative for UPMC in Pittsburgh and was a bus monitor in the Elizabeth Forward School District for special needs students, for whom he had a great deal of love. Born May 3, 1954 in McKeesport, he was a son of Wilma (Salzer) Opfar of Lincoln and the late Theodore Opfar. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his siblings, Theodore (Sharon) Opfar of Versailles, John (Kim) Opfar of Jefferson Hills, Tracy Opfar of Elizabeth, Billie Jo Kurta of Clairton, Karen (Chris) Davis of Canonsburg and Kevin (Lisa) Opfar of Lincoln; also, nieces and nephews. Mary E. Graham, age 65, of Duquesne, passed away on Monday, Labor Day, September 2, 2024, at UPMC Montefiore. Born in Braddock on March 26, 1959, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Andres) Garland. She was a former food service worker at Duquesne City School District and a graduate of West Mifflin North High School.
Mary is the mother of Tiffany Holman (Joe Yarborough Jr.) of Duquesne; sister of William (Bok) Garland of Lincoln Place, Margaret (late William) Ramsey of Whitaker, and Cindy (Mark) Williams of Tionesta; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Diane (husband John survives) Burke of Duquesne, James Garland, Robert Garland and Christie Garland.

Sharyn Conley Kelley Manns, of West Mifflin, passed away on September 2, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Helen Zuber Conley Kelley, James E. Conley (killed in action during World War II) and David E. Kelley. Wife of 54 years to the late Richard N. Manns, she is survived by children Kristyn Hunter, Courtney Moncavage and Michael David Manns (John); grandsons Justin and Zachary (Lauren) Hunter and Aiden Elias Moncavage; great grandchildren Jacie Layne, Zoey Eira, Stark and Reed Hunter…along with Zuber and Kelley cousins and Marie Sloss Kelley.
