Matthew David Klingensmith Ward, 43, of Fayetteville, NC, formerly of North Huntingdon died Saturday, September 10, 2016. He was born May 10, 1973 in Landstuhl, Germany, and moved to the Fayetteville, NC, area in August 1973 where he grew up. After a time living with his father and attending Norwin schools, he returned to the Fayetteville area graduating from Douglas Byrd High School, in 1991. Matt’s love of adventure led to a diverse range of careers over the years starting at 16 when he was hired by Eutaw Round A Bout Skate Rink, where he learned to DJ and was the occasional party mascot from 1989-1991. He then joined the Navy and left to see the world, eventually settling in the Virginia Beach area.

Helen Gergas Yanez died on Friday, September 23, 2016. She was born on October 18, 1924 in Peterson Plan, PA, which was part of Eden Park Boro. Many of the Lodge 146 pioneer families settled there and many still remain. It is now part of McKeesport, PA.
Helen’s parents were the late Julia Babinec and John Gergas. Helen was married to John G. Yanez and they were the proud parents of six children, namely: Frank (Connie) Yanez, Rosemarie (Fred) Donahoe, Mary (Dave) Amaditz, Christine (Dave) Lieberum, David (Kim) Yanez, Elena Yanez; 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Helen was educated at Duff’s Business College and McKeesport High School. She worked for the Hunter-Edmundson-Striffler Funeral Home for six months, at Bell Telephone Company for ten years, five as a supervisor, for 14 years as a tax advisor for USS Steel Local 1408, for 17 years as an income tax preparer and for 19 years on her local election board in McKeesport, PA.
In Lodge 146 Helen was a member for 65 years and has been the financial secretary for 19 years. She served on the Lodge Executive Board, the Historical and Cultural Committees, the Wage and Policy Committee and the Humanitarian Fund in all respects, collecting food and clothing and the DORA Fund.
She was a delegate to four national conventions, serving on various committees. She was the President and Vice President of the Croatian Women’s Club of Versailles and former officer in the Croatian Pensioneer’s Club of Lodge 146.
A delegate from Lodge 146 to the Four Countries Conferences, she served on the Four Countries Board of Trustees and was their 1996 “Woman of the Year”.
Other affiliations are as follows: she was a current member of St. Angela Merici Church, she was a member of St. Martin de Porres R.C. Church, its Christian Mothers and Altar Society, and the Young Ladies Sodality. She was a life member of Amvets Post 8, McKeesport, PA, and was president of their auxiliary for two years, a member of White Oak American Legion Post 701, was convention chairman for the Amvets at their convention in Monroeville, PA, an Amvets representative for visitations to Veteran’s Hospitals for the past 14 years.
Helen was a member of the Board of Directors of the Parkview Community Federal Credit Union. She was also an active member of Versailles AARP Chapter 2911. She served on the Community Affairs Committee and participated in their visits to veteran’s homes and to personal care and nursing homes in the Mon-Yough area.
She was active in the local democratic party and found time to aid any lodge member or friend in any way she could, such as taking them to church or shopping, helping with letter writing or visiting and comforting them. She was always there for everyone and anyone.
The officers and members of “Sveto Trojstvo” CFU Lodge 146 thank the United Croatian Fraternal Union Lodges of Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland Counties for honoring sis Helen Gergas Yanez, a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, sister, neighbor and friend as the 1996 “Woman of the Year”.
Thank you Jesus for sharing her with us for almost 92 years. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

He was the brother of the late Michael, John, and Peter Sidun, Helen Duboy, Mary Vacha, and Anna Magda. Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA 15132 on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A service will be held Friday, September 23, 2016 beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 AM and at St. Sava Orthodox Church on Hartman Street in McKeesport at 10:00 AM with the Very Rev. Laura J. James, age 93 of McKeesport, passed away on September 17, 2016 at Riverside Care Center. Born June 22, 1923 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Casper and Sophie (Osolinski) Rybka and wife of the late Arthur D. James. Laura worked for J & L Steel during WWII. She also worked for The Tasty Donut Bakery in Christy Park. Laura was a member of Corpus Christi Parish. She treasured all aspects of nature and enjoyed relaxing visits to Conneaut Lake. Laura loved taking walks, keeping up on current events, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a Steeler fan who enjoyed a slice of pizza and her occasional beer. She was an avid Bingo player and was a member of the Friendship Club in McKeesport. She is survived by her daughter, Donna (the late William) Isbir, of White Oak; grandson, Bill (Janna) Isbir, of Pittsburgh; sisters, Annette Zyma, of North Versailles and Dolores (John) Marcinko, of Fullerton, CA; brother, Ronald “Rip” (Cheryl) Rybka, of Port Vue; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Castor, Helen Gall, Virginia Macey, Bertha Natale, and Cecelia Sally Rybka. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Corpus Christi Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at McKeesport-Versailles Cemetery. Irene B. Reitz, age 82, of White Oak, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016, at her residence. Born May 30, 1934 in Cumberland, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Lander and Josephine Elizabeth (Lonzo) Fleming, and loving wife of the late Larry V. Reitz, Sr. In her younger years, Irene worked at the McKeesport Eat'n Park as a car-hop for many years. She later went on to work for King's Restaurant as well as a security guard in Pittsburgh, and most recently worked at the Alliance Christian Child Care. She enjoyed going to church at the Glassport Assembly of God where she was a Sunday school teacher and Royal Ranger. In her free time she enjoyed volunteering at Cornerstone TV, playing Yahtzee and spending time with her faithful dog, Hanna. Irene is survived by her children; Raymond Reitz, Cindy Palmer, Karen Penn, and Irene (Daniel) Brieck; Grandchildren, Chasity (Jeff) Bache, Mandy (Adam) Wagner, Nina (Greg) Plumb, Marty Joe Penn, Daniel (Darcy) Brieck Jr., and Shane Reitz; four great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry V. Reitz, Jr., and her siblings; Ethel, Jean, Mary, Elizabeth, William, and John. Joy Clemont Johnson, 88, of Dravosburg, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016. She was born Nov. 29, 1927, in McKeesport, the daughter of the late Harry and Etta Hoagland Johnson. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in McKeesport, and she retired as the executive director of the former YWCA on Ninth Street in McKeesport for many, many years where she and her mother founded the YWCA Garden Club which is now known as the Joyful Bloomers. She was also a member of the McKeesport Kiwanis Club where she was the very first woman inducted and then was elected the first woman president, a member of the Confederation of McKeesport Women’s Club, the Home Gardeners Guild, a member of Elizabeth Chapter No. 418 of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer for the McKeesport Regional History and Heritage Center. She is survived by her caregiver, Margaret Ann Cant, of Versailles Borough, cousins, and many, many dear friends. Kathryn A. Brown, age 63 of McKeesport, passed away at home on September 11, 2016. Born November 19, 1952 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Lenore (Hammen) Shea and the wife of David C. Brown of 31 years.
Kathryn worked as a managed care representative for a pharmaceutical company. She went to Seminary School for the Salvation Army Officer Training Program and was a Captain in the Salvation Army. Kathryn was a longtime member of the First Church of the Open Bible where she was the President of the Ladies’ Club and she also loved reading Christian literature.
She is survived by her son, Paul David Brown of McKeesport; stepsons, Eric Christopher Brown of Brick, NJ and Joshua Caleb Brown, of Jacksonville, FL; stepdaughter, Heather Brown of Brick, NJ; and grandson, Nathaniel Brown. Kathryn is also survived by her siblings, Carol Eiffart, Ann Marie Hallock, Patricia Watts, Ethel Poppa, Richard Shea, Edward Shea, and Dennis Shea. A Memorial service will be held on September 17, 2016 at the First Church of The Open Bible in McKeesport at 3 p.m. Pastor Brian Schmigel will officiate.

Linda attended the First Evangelical Free Church in McKeesport for 50 years, and was active in Sage’s Army in helping to raise awareness of drug addiction. Linda was also active in the Veteran’s Wounded Warrior Project as a caregiver. She was a nursing assistant at Bayada Nursing, where she cared for elderly and disabled individuals in their homes. She also loved to care for her horse Velvet and Louie Louis Vuitton her granddog. In addition to her mom, she is survived by her children, Amy (Kenneth Ferree) McCarthy, Raelyn (Joseph Willard III) Meisenbach, and Sam (Rachel) Grissom; grandchildren, Dontae and Rayann McCarthy; sister, Lorraine (Gary Pearsol) Shipley; brother, John (Allison) Shipley; nieces and nephews, Livia, Nicholas, Dylan, Amanda, Amber, Anthony, and Aidan. Robert L. Gogo, Jr., age 40, of Duquesne, died September 3, 2016. He was born in McKeesport on March 30, 1976 and is the son of Robert L. and Cheryl A. Pearce Gogo of North Versailles. He was a full time police officer for the City of Duquesne since 2005, and a part time police officer in East McKeesport. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #91, the PNA Lodge #352 in McKeesport, and the Glassport Club 22. He loved boating and riding his motorcycle. He was a firefighter and EMT with the former Sunset Central Department in North Versailles.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son; Robert Lee Gogo, III, and his son’s mother, Jamie Dinkfelt with whom he resided, sisters; Jennifer (Rick) Martino of White Oak, Erin (Tony) Carr of North Huntingdon, nieces and nephews; Nicholas, Madison, Anthony, Caroline, and Julian.

Kenneth R. Logsdon, 61, of Coulter, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2016. He was born June 30, 1955, in McKeesport, the son of the late Kenneth D. and Alice V. (Kollar) Logsdon. Ken was self-employed in the carpet cleaning business for 20 years and was a member of Praise Assembly of God Church in North Versailles.

James Michael Volosky, 76, of Homestead, died Friday, August 26, 2016 in Pittsburgh. Born January 29, 1940 in Homestead, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Mikula) Volosky. Mr Volosky was a retired employee of the former Homestead Works, U.S. Steel Corp. and a U.S. Army veteran. He was the husband of the late Alice Volosky. He is survived by two sons, James Volosky of Swissvale and Timothy Volosky of Brownsville; two daughters, Vicky Pikka of Lansing, Michigan and Judith Green of Port Vue; and seven grandchildren.
